Mark your calendars: Dec. 10th Appel and Frank shopping event

Twice a year Karen Appel and Jody Frank host a shopping event at the Regency Center on Van Ness featuring up-and-coming designers and artists. The last time I went I bought a set of beautiful pounded gold bangles and a necklace I’ve worn at least once a week for the past three years. I first heard about the event through my good friend Jess Chamberlain, a home writer for Sunset Magazine (and I just happened upon this photo of her on the Appel and Frank website). This year’s holiday event is on December 10th from 5-9pm. For more info and to RSVP for free admission go to

winter wear: ankle boots

There are so many fabulous boot styles out right now. Here are a few of my favorite ankle/booties and some ideas for how to wear them. Look out for more styles like over-the-knee, riding, and rain boots on mission:closet over the next 2 weeks.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Ruffle Side Booties, also available in black: Heeled ankle boots work well with tights and a mini skirt or your favorite pair of skinny jeans (I promise they’ll make you’re legs look extremely long).

Strahan Ankle Boot, also available in gray: Aldo. I’d wear these with leggings, a long cardigan and a bright scarf.

Elizabeth and James “Lola” Booties: Bloomingdale’s. This pair would look so fun with opaque tights and a party dress.

Dolce Vita “Brylee” Studded Ankle Boots, also available in gray with silver studs: Bloomindale’s. A great pair of boots for when you just want to throw on jeans but still look put together and fashionable.

wish list: studded crossbody bag

Rebecca Minkoff’s studded Rocker bag comes in black, gray, and plum. You can wear it crossbody or detach the strap for a clutch. Available at

winter wear: dinner party

Candy Store Collective on 16th Street is one of my favorite places to shop in the Mission. Plaid is a fun winter trend and this shift paired with a cute pair of tights works for both day and night.

wish list: parker day zipper necklace

Last weekend I went to Thread Show, a showcase of local and LA designers at Fort Mason. Parker Day, a jewelry designer based in the city, has a great line called Made. Her pieces range from graceful feather earrings to gold cassette tapes on a chain, to house numbers strung together and named the “1-2-3 Pimp Chain.” This zipper necklace livens up any simple outfit. Find her on Etsy.

day one

Welcome to mission:closet, your new guide to shopping in San Francisco. My name is Elisabeth Carr and I have a huge crush on Fashion. I devour Vogue and InStyle every month, peruse dozens of fashion blogs every day, and love finding clothes that make me do a little dance in the dressing room.

I live in the Mission District neighborhood in San Francisco. I’m in love with this eclectic neighborhood and am inspired by the array of styles I see when I walk out the door. But one of my favorite characteristics about this city is our diversity, so this blog will be my exploration of the entire San Francisco fashion scene: hot new boutiques, trend reports, local designers, great deals at F21 and H&M, interviews with shop owners, sale alerts, easy seasonal updates, street chic, and pieces I lust after at Barney’s but will never be able to afford.

Please let me know if you have suggestions or tips, or if any of my posts inspire you to do a little dance in your own closet: You can also follow my updates on Facebook and Twitter.

For the love of fashionistas everywhere,
