working the trend: sequins

If you’ve done any shopping lately, you might have noticed that sequins are BIG right now. They’re covering everything—jackets, tops, skirts, scarves, and even shoes. I love it. Who doesn’t enjoy sparkling during the holiday season? When shopping for sequins, keep in mind that most tight-fitting items have very little stretch and can feel constraining, so consider loose, draping pieces.

Because most us probably don’t consider this $895 3.1 Phillip Lim Sequin Tux Cardigan within our budgets, I’ve searched around and seen many similar pieces at stores like H&M, J.Crew, and Urban Outfitters. Pair a sequined jacket or cardigan with a long black tank, skinny jeans, black heels, and a simple clutch. You hardly need to accessorize—the sequins do all the work.

I’m really into vests right now because they are flattering on many different body types. I was surprised to find this one on the Express website because I can’t remember the last time I shopped there, but I like the way they styled it with a long tee (long-sleeved would look good too), leggings and chunky bracelets. I also found a navy sequined vest on Topshop.com that could look great with a skinny gold belt.

If you just want a to add a little sparkle to your outfit, try a necklace or a top like this one from Forever 21 with sequin accents around the neck and shoulders. Skip a necklace with these kinds of tops and go with a bunch of bracelets instead.
