While I’m reluctant to accept that fall is approaching, I do acknowledge that now is the time to start thinking about fall purchases. New styles are hitting stores and I’m loving what’s going on this season. There will be many fall trend posts to come on mission:closet, but right now I’m mainly thinking about coats, bags, and shoes. These items are usually where I start as the season turns because just a couple of smart purchases instantly update your wardrobe and will go far with a good set of basics (skinnies, pencil skirt, long sleeve tees, etc) Add some inexpensive, trendy accessories and you’re set for 6 months. Here are a few of my fave outerwear options.
Camel coats were all over the Fall ‘10 runways. The J.Crew, wool-cashmere icon trench is a no-fail choice. I love the way they style it with different shades of brown here, but I think a camel coat also looks great with black. I’m imagining this with a smart black leather satchel and big sunglasses. Their shorter Ever pea coat is another a fab option.
Gray is huge this season. So is leather. Gray+leather=match made in heaven. This WIlliam Rast Ruffled leather jacket is so unique and fashion-forward. Leather jackets are a great investment in SF because they are the perfect weight for the climate— I wear mine year-round. Throw it on with a pair of jeans or over a party dress for a fun contradiction.
Tweed is another big fall trend, and not just for coats. Boden is an English company that has recently arrived in the US. Their British Tweed Blazer comes in three colors. Add flair to the classic collegiate look with bright colors.
