local gift guide: the mission statement

Wouldn’t you like to do all of your holiday shopping in one store? How about somewhere right in the neighborhood? No pushy crowds? No long lines? Delightful, helpful salespeople? Well I have some great news for you: The Mission Statement on 18th between Guerrero and Valencia is the one-stop-shop for all your gift-giving needs. This designer co-op is filled with locally-made, unique items you won’t find anywhere else. Here’s my gift guide and be sure to check out their December calendar for daily sales.

For him

Estrella Tadeo, local apparel designer and founder of The Mission Statement, hunts down the coolest vintage ties. These stitched canvas belts can be cut to fit any size and she’ll custom make them if you have a specific color in mind.

A non-cheesy SF shirt by Culture Consumer. All of their men’s tees will be 30% off on 12/11.

For her

A woman can never have too many scarves, especially when they’re as cool as these. The knit ones on top are made by Venn Apparel and the braided ones are by Culture Consumer.

For the (eco-friendly) fashionista

Kayu is a San Francisco-based sunglasses and handbag designer. All the materials are natural, renewable, and produced in a sustainable manner. For every pair of bamboo sunglasses purchased, Kayu will pay for one sight-restoring surgery in India. For every handbag purchased they buy a backpack and school supplies for a child in Cambodia.

For the jewelry-lover

I’m a long-time fan of Vanessa Gade’s jewelry and I’ve been lusting after a set of her rings for a year now. All stack rings will be 30% off on 12/8 (custom orders too) and the necklaces will be 30% off on 12/19.

For the foodie

Inna Jam makes fresh, seasonal jams with organic fruit sourced within 100 miles of Berkeley, where they’re based.

For kids

Adorable Animal Instincts onesies and kids t-shirts. I wish they made the Sutro Tower monkey one for adults too.

For the stocking

Metaphor Organic soaps, lotions, and lip balms are the perfect small gift. I couldn’t resist buying a bar of coconut lime soap for myself.
