tights should be tight

Top-Ann Taylor, necklace-either F21 or H&M (can't remember), skirt-J.Crew, tights-We Love Colors, socks-Hue, boots-Matisse
I try not to be a Negative Nancy over here on mission:closet. This blog isn't about calling out the Worst Dressed at the Grammy's or ripping apart the looks I don't love on the runways. But I feel it is my duty to tell you about my experience with We Love Colors tights. I bought a few pairs before the remix, thinking it would be fun to add a splash of color here and there. They have dozens of great shades to choose from. Today is my first day wearing these green tights and they're just not working out. They technically "fit" yet they're not stretchy at all so they did this weird bunching thing around my knees and just wouldn't stay in place. These are the least expensive at $8 so perhaps if I upgrade to the Microfiber line I'll have more luck. Until then, Hue remains my favorite line of tights.

  1. Update: I complained on Twitter and got this response from We Love Colors, "Style #1001 does not contain Lycra, so they do not hold their shape as well as our microfibers #1053 or nylon/Lycra #1021. The Lycra helps tights keep their shape and form to your legs. Definitely worth trying!"

  2. I have the microfiber tights in maroon and I love them, I'm actually wearing them today. The quality is awesome and the thickness is perfect! I would definitely recommend trying them again in a different material.

  3. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm still bummed about this purchase. Who makes no stretchy tights?

  4. I like this casual yet dressy look! And I really want some tights that color.

I love WLC tights, but have only experienced the $12.50 version...

  5. THANK YOU for the tip, Elisabeth! Everyone raves about We Love Colors so good to know that may apply to the microfibers exclusively. The color is definitely awesome, though, especially with these neutrals.

  6. I've been considering ordering tights from them for a while, so thanks for the heads up. Hue and Calvin Klein are my favorite budget-friendly brands. But my favorite brand hands-down is Wolford. At first I was skeptical about the hefty price tag, but they are absolutely worth it. I've had a black opaque pair for two years now, and I wear them weekly when it's cold out!

  7. SO glad I read this. I was thinking about buying some WLC tights soon. But...again...why even make the version without lycra???

  8. Glad I can help educate the masses about the perils of tights without lycra.

  9. I swear by thick microfiber, wool or cashmere tights. Can't stand it when tights don't fit!
On a bright note, your outfit is adorable. Bet it would look awesome with bright berry or purple tights too!

  13. Thanks for sharing your experience with WLC. I am about to place an order and I was going to order the $12.50 and the $8 styles to see which ones I liked, after reading this I think I will only get the MicroFiber style.

  15. We make the non-lycra #1001s as a cheaper option for costumes and limited uses such for theater, etc. :) I'm glad you are considering trying the microfibers... we highly recommend them!! :)
