beauty crush: mac lipstick

Vegas Volt, MAC Red, and So Chaud
I fell hard for these three little tubes recently. I love, love, love MAC lipsticks. The creamy texture is moisturizing but stays in place and the $14 price point is perfect for someone who wants to try before they buy without breaking the bank. I had some help picking these colors. Tania rocked So Chaud on her blog recently so I knew the orange-red would be a fun color for Spring, Arianna and I bought MAC Red together while I was in Portland last month, and my friend Jennifer wore Vegas Volt to the Kate Spade event. I loved the coral on her so much I texted her afterward to get the name. Turns out Jennifer also has MAC Red and So Chaud. It seems I've found my lipstick soul mate.

  1. eee, i love these three!! i've been meaning to try the so chaud again--i wasn't sure if i liked how the pictures turned out last time, but the super-fashionable jen maples told me it was a great color and she's never wrong.

  2. OK I love you in lipstick. I love most girls in bright lipstick. I think I look like a clown when I wear it! Do you wear lipliner under yours to keep it in place and get a clean look? Or do you just head straight to the lipstick?? Inquiring minds want to know!! I think I need to head to a MAC counter (or similar) and have someone help me determine the right colors, so I can just confidently on the lipstick bandwagon.

  6. Finding the right colors for you is definitely the first step! Sometimes I wear liner, sometimes I don't. With Vegas Volt I blend in a nude one on top to tone down the color a bit and help define my lips. With MAC Red I use a liner if I'm going for a bold look, but I don't if I just want more of a matte stain. For the stain look I just apply lipstick to the bottom lip and smudge to the top, touching up the lines as necessary.
