party at vince

I'm back from Spain and excited to tell you about a party at the San Francisco Vince store next week. Many of you have probably heard me talk about my friend Micki Turner, a fabulous image consultant who has helped me find my personal style. Well now you'll have the chance to meet her at Vince. Come sip champagne and shop with us on Tuesday, 6/7, from 6-8pm. Feel free to bring friends and let me know if you can make it by leaving a comment on the post or emailing me at Hope to see you there!

Hi, my name is Maggie.

I was wearing harem pants long before Kim Kardashian.

Oh hey there! I'm Maggie, Elisabeth's sister. That is me on the far left, bravely surfing on a killer whale. Elisabeth was really scared, but I wasn't. A lot of people ask Elisabeth "Is it hard to have such a stylish and brave sister?" She sighs and says, "I just try and take it one day at a time." Actually, if we're being completely honest, Elisabeth has always been very au courant, introducing me to NKOTB, scrunchies, My So Called Life, and flatforms (back when they were cool in the 90s).

Right now you're thinking, "Ok. Ok. Enough about Elisabeth. What about you, Maggie? What makes you tick? Who is your style inspiration?" I'm so glad you asked. I would describe my style as Napoleon-chic. I'll let this Polyvore set do the talking for me...

Who doesn't want to dress like Nap B? No one.

Happy Memorial Day everyone! Vive le France! Er...les Etats-Unis!

Who is that cute little girl also having fun on the whale? Oh, that's Caroline, our littlest (and most sensitive) sister.

BR after 5

After the Shourouk event last week, Natalie, Kim, and I walked over to the Banana Republic Flagship store where bloggers Laura, Amber, and Aimee co-hosted a BR After 5 event. The store was recently remodeled and it looks really great--super fresh and modern. I loved their big assortment of maxi dresses and wrap bracelets.

Shourouk at La Boutique

Last week La Boutique in Jackson Square hosted an event with French jewelry designer Shourouk. Her gorgeous, edgy designs are so unique and lust-worthy. I especially loved her necklaces--they made the entire boutique sparkle. I'd never been to La Boutique, which is a beautiful, gallery-like space. I wish I'd looked through more of the clothes but I was too busy chatting with fellow bloggers and ogling over Shourouk's jewelry. I'm definitely planning to go back soon.

Madewell dress, Camper shoes
This dress was my first purchase from Madewell. I'd perused the website a bunch, but decided I'd wait till my trip to New York to see the clothes in person. As soon as I stopped in the Soho store, I knew I was a fan. Now I can't wait for the SF store to open. I was especially drawn to this dress because of the scallops and cool open back, below.

I wore it to work last Thursday (with a long cardigan to cover the back) and later to an event at La Boutique in Jackson Square. Pics of the event coming later this week!

musthave monday: spanish style

Spanish style

Spanish style by missioncloset featuring a pocket wallet

My love of fashion began when I studied abroad in Madrid. I somehow landed myself a dorm room in the swank neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca, which meant I walked past stores like Ferragamo, La Perla, Balenciaga, and Carolina Herrera on a daily basis. Of course I couldn't (and still can't) afford any of them, so I fell in love with Zara and Mango where I could find fashion-forward clothes at student appropriate prices. Camper is another Spanish brand that won me over during my time abroad and is still one of my favorite places to buy shoes.

Vacation time

Spain by missioncloset featuring bow shoes

Tomorrow I leave for Spain! I'm going to spend some time with my dear friend Maria before she gets married. Also hoping to do a little shopping of course! I'm counting on Zara having better stuff in the homeland. I've queued up some posts before I go so check back next week for photos from a couple of fun fashion events I attended this week. Hasta luego!

packing tips for gals on the go

On Saturday I'm taking off on a whirlwind, week-long trip to Spain and DC for 2 weddings. So of course I've been thinking about what to pack for the last couple of days (ok, last couple of weeks). Whenever I travel, I look back at a post from last year where I asked Micki Turner for advice on how to pack light. If you're planning a vacation this summer, definitely check out the post for Micki's great suggestions. I've also found some helpful tips from these bloggers:

The Fashionista Lab: 3 part series on traveling light
Life Love Lace: Style on vacation
The Coastal Chicster: A guest post on Law Mama jam-packed with packing do's and don'ts.

Do you have any good packing tips? I'm bringing a tiny carry-on so I need all the help I can get!

the perfect fit

Embrace Lace by Wacoal
When was the last time you had a bra fitting? Chances are, it's been too long. On Monday night I was invited to a blogger event by Wacoal where I learned that 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong bra size. The right bra should be the foundation of your wardrobe and can instantly make you look 10 pounds lighter. It's a good idea to get fitted every year, especially if you've gained or lost weight because just 5-7 pounds will affect your bra size.

Wacoal's fit expert, Liz Smith, recommends every woman have 8 different bras in her wardrobe:
  1. One seamed bra- seams maximize lift and support
  2. One seamless, unlined bra- for comfort and a smooth silhouette
  3. One contour bra- lightly lined and great under t-shirts
  4. One strapless bra- yes, you can find one that stays in place
  5. One T-Back or racerback bra- for tank tops
  6. A push-up or minimizing bra (depending on your figure type)
  7. One sport bra
  8. One drop dead sexy bra
Need a fitting? Wacoal is hosting a Fit for the Cure event on Friday from 11-5 at the Union Square Macy's where you can have a complimentary fitting. $2 from each bra sale will benefit Susan G. Komen. If you can't make it on Friday, I also highly recommend the fit experts at Nordstrom.

musthave monday: summer sunnies

Summer Sunnies

Summer Sunnies by missioncloset featuring square sunglasses

It's time to start the search for the perfect summer sunglasses. I love that a great pair can really make an outfit feel current, and you don't have to spend a fortune to stay on trend. My favorite styles for the season range from bright and transparent to bold and round. I also still love cat eyes when I want to look chic and put together, or a big 70s-style frame for a more boho relaxed feel. What style are you looking forward to wearing this summer?

nothing fancy

Gap jacket, F21 dress, Dun Up Boutique vintage necklace, Camper shoes
There's nothing fancy about this outfit, just something I wore around for errands a couple of weeks ago and forgot to post. Lately my jean jacket is a real go-to item, just like back in 1st-3rd grade when I couldn't leave home without one (and a side ponytail).

3 (more) ways with florals

Like I mentioned on Friday, it's Florals Day on Everybody Everwear. I haven't had time for outfit photos lately so I figured I'd show you a few ways I've worn florals in the past. My H&M maxi dress has become one of my staples this spring and I usually wear it with a long cardigan or denim jacket. The bright look in the middle is an outfit I wore during the winter but I'm looking forward to transitioning the skirt into spring/summer with a white tee or tank and sandals. The top in the final look is a tiny Liberty print from so I thought it would be fun to mix it with stripes. Head on over to Everybody Everywear for more floral inspiration.

spring florals

Spring Florals

Spring Florals by missioncloset featuring a blue shawl

SPOILER ALERT! Next Tuesday is Florals Day on Everybody Everywear. I made this Polyvore to give participating bloggers a little in inspiration for the event. I figured I'd also share it on my blog, because who doesn't have a floral item in their wardrobe? Even the toughest of the tough probably have at least one item featuring a flower, it's just nature's way. I love these three different ways to style a floral dress. Rihanna makes it tough and edgy by adding peep-toe ankle booties. Louise Roe adds a brown leather jacket for a chic night-time look. And SJP (as Carrie) mixes two bold prints for a decidedly feminine and flirty look. What's your favorite way to wear florals?

the (other) oc

I couch-hopped during most of my stay in New York (thank you Claudia, Andrea, Charlie, and Ateqah!), but the last two nights Nick and I decided to splurge on a room at the Ace Hotel. I've long been a big fan of Opening Ceremony and was psyched to learn they had a store in the hotel. I drooled over their gorgeous clothes and tried on a dozen pairs of sunglasses, just for fun. Until I found a pair I couldn't live without...

topshop soho

One of my favorite places to shop during my trip to New York was the massive Topshop in Soho. I would have found it overwhelming had it not been for a great tip from a Topshop-loving friend who recommended their free Personal Shopping service. I called the store one morning and made an appointment for later the same day. I met with Melanie in the Personal Shopping area of the store where I was greeted with a bottle of water, jars of candy, cupcakes, and a huge dressing room just for me. I had given her my size when I called and told her I was looking for summer clothes, so Melanie had pulled a few pieces for me before I arrived. We also walked through the store together picking out items as we went. She described the way the store was organized by trend (currently featuring Gypsy Rocker, Colour Clash, Graduation, and Swedish Summer). It was so helpful to work with a fashion forward stylist who gave me guidance on fit and trends. I left with a few great pieces that I'll feature on the blog soon. Here's a glimpse of the items I couldn't bring home with me.
