mira mira tonight

Mira Mira has quickly become one of my fave boutiques in the Mission. Stop by tonight for some girl talk, champagne, and 20% off everything in the store. I was there over the weekend and snapped some pics of a few cute pieces in the store right now.

Anyone else on the hunt for a great summer-weight jacket after this dreary week in SF?
I've never been able to shake my middle school love of railroad stripes.
Someone please buy this top so I don't have to.
I bought one of these silk and sterling wrap bracelets. A fun alternative to the friendship bracelet trend and great for layering.

the basics

H&M hat, Vince dress, Taxi CDC belt, Vintage Gucci bag, Dolce Vita shoes
When I was packing for Spain I realized that most of my summer dresses are prints, which made it a little hard to mix and match during the trip. So at the Vince event a couple of weeks ago I took advantage of the sale and bought this basic black maxi. It's really comfy—the material is super soft but doesn't stretch out. I'll be remixing this dress all summer long. I'm also pretty excited about my new sandals (originally found during Musthave Monday research). My dad gave them to me for my birthday!

musthave monday: 5 tote bags, 5 ways

5 ways to wear a tote bag

A great tote bag (or two...or five) is a definite musthave in my book. Especially in San Francisco, where we constantly carry around extra jackets or scarves for when the fog rolls in. Here are 5 tote bags I love right now and 5 ways to wear them. Click on the polyvore sets for product info.

the swap

The clothing swap last night was totally bananas! Elbows were thrown, wine was splashed, tears were shed. Ok, the tears part is an exaggeration, but the swap did get pretty intense. All the swappers lined up outside the doors and at the stroke of 8:00 they let us run in to attack the piles of clothes like a herd of bulls. I was a little too overwhelmed to really dig through the goods, but I did bring home one cute dress and had a fun night chatting with fellow bloggers and swappers. Thanks to the Swapaholics and Lulus.com for hosting a cool event!

birthday suit

We had a little cocktail party to celebrate my birthday over the weekend. The cobalt blue dress was a present from my mom. Please send it good thoughts—I smeared cake frosting down the front and I'm hoping the dry cleaner can work some magic!

packing tips: eagle creek

Easy packing with Eagle Creek luggage

"Packing" as I knew it totally changed during my trip to Spain. Due to several airline connections and too many lost luggage experiences, I decided I had to carry on, but I've never been great at packing light.  I did some research  before my trip and decided I needed to invest in a great suitcase and some clothing organizers. My friend works at the Container Store so I picked his brain about the best options. He highly recommended the Eagle Creek luggage line and their organizer system. Guys, I'll never travel without them EVER AGAIN. The 20'' suitcase was small enough to fit in international overhead compartments and the organizing cubes and folders helped me fit everything I needed for the 10-day trip. I always knew where things were in my bag and my clothes stayed relatively wrinkle-free. Click on the link below the slideshow for descriptions of how I used each product. You can find everything at the Container Store and they all happen to be on sale until June 26th.

musthave monday: summer hats

Summer hats

I hope y'all had great weekends. It was gorgeous in San Francisco and it was my birthday yesterday so I certainly can't complain. Sunny days call for a great summer hat, especially for fair gals like myself. Blair and Alicia have been styling adorable panama hats on their blogs recently and they inspired me to get one at H&M. Here's hoping the sun is here to stay so I can wear it all summer long.

fashionable friends: dana and vanessa

On Wednesday I went out to dinner with a few of my girlfriends after work. On the walk over I made Dana and Vanessa pose for a fashionable friend photo. I just loved Dana's color blocking and Vanessa's chic neutrals. We ate at Prospect and it was deeeelicious. I especially loved their artisan cocktails. Warning: the Prospector (far left) is dangerous.

Last week Molly and I went to Philanthropist on Sacramento Street to look for a dress for her to wear to the Italian wedding. It's a big, beautiful store with a great selection of designer clothing from labels like Zac Posen, Stella McCartney, Tucker, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. The best thing about Philanthropist is that 100% of the profits go to Bay Area charities combatting poverty. You might ask yourself, "how is that possible?" but I say don't ask, just do it. Though we didn't find the perfect ensemble for Molly, they did have a lot of gorgeous dresses (not to mention a well-stocked sale rack) and I will certainly be returning next time I need something for a special occasion.

musthave monday: one piece suits

one piece bathing suits

I'm really feeling one piece bathing suits lately. Sure, I still have a drawer full of bikinis that rarely see the San Francisco summer sun. They're getting pushed to the back of the closet thanks to all the cute one pieces available right now. More flattering and retro hip? Sign me up.

How about you? Bikini or one piece?

Hunting outfit

Rag & Bone jacket. Forever 21 top, Botkier bag, Stella jeans, Camper shoes
This is what I wore shopping last weekend with my friend Molly. We were hunting for a dress  for her to wear to a wedding in Italy. We went to a few boutiques to look for something elegant yet unique. It rained that day so I tried to wear an outfit that was weather-appropriate yet put together. I'll post some photos and learnings from our excursion next week. Hope you have a great weekend!

Vince party pics

Me and Micki

The party at Vince on Tuesday night was so much fun. Friends and bloggers came out to sip champagne, chat about fashion, and shop. I love Vince's Spring/Summer line and I'm really excited to see what they have for Fall because I'm dying for one of their leather jackets. Every item in the store is exceptionally tailored to fit beautifully and never go out of style. Micki and her daughter Molly helped me pick out a couple of pieces that I'll be wearing all summer long. (They'll appear on the blog soon!) Thanks to everyone who came and to Adam, Lindsey, and Sarah from Vince for throwing a great party! Here are some photos from the night, but be sure to visit the Vince store at 36 Geary to see the clothes for yourself.

Spain part 3: la novia

I couldn't stay for Maria's wedding because I had another wedding in DC the same weekend. Luckily, I got to go to Maria's last dress fitting so I could see the bride in her gorgeous gown. She commissioned her dress from a designer named Helena Mareque. She wanted something that felt vintage, like something out of a Jane Austen novel. The finished product perfectly suited Maria's style and she looked so beautiful and happy.

Spain part 2: the boutiques

Nue boutique
Back when I studied abroad in Spain, I rarely tempted myself by going into boutiques because I was on such a strict budget. This time, I allowed myself to peek. I found two great shops in the Chueca neighborhood along Calle Campoamor. One was called Nue and it was just a basic boutique with a variety of European designers like Sienna Miller's Twenty8Twelve. The other was La cabeza bien amueblada- a boutique, hair salon, and furniture store all in one. They had a great selection of shoes and I loved one dress in particular by Basque designer Cristina Triana that was covered in elephants.

musthave monday: thick-strap sandals

summer sandals

summer sandals by missioncloset featuring flat shoes

Though it doesn't feel anything like summer in San Francisco, it's still time to buy a fun pair of sandals. In fact, I think this will help summer come faster. Or at least prepare you for trips to warmer locales. I started my search on the internet and found myself continually drawn to sandals with thicker straps. There's something that feels very put-together about them. I'd love to wear any one of these pairs with a maxi dress or my favorite pair of jean shorts.
