the party dress: to rent

Rent the Runway

I've purchased far too many pricey holiday party dresses over the past few years. I always convince myself that I'll get enough wear out of them, but that's rarely the case. So last year I experimented by renting a dress from Rent the Runway. I was so satisfied with the experience that I'm doing it again this year. I love that they send you two sizes (for the one rental fee) and there's no need to worry about spills or damage since they cover you with insurance for $5. When you're done with the dress, you just pop it into the nearest mailbox using the provided envelope.

Tips
If you decide to rent, I highly recommend starting your search by filtering your size, body type, and date so you're not disappointed if a dress you love isn't available. I also suggest reading the stylist's notes and reviews for the dresses you're considering because they give you a general idea for sizing and what to expect (ie. "Dress does not come with pictured belt"). If the dress doesn't fit you when you receive it, you can return it within 24 hours for a full refund. You can also choose a second dress option for $25, which is a great idea if you're experimenting with a new designer or style for your first dress. Finally, if you find a dress you like, order it soon. It's a busy time of year at RTR!

  3. I have never done rent the runway but always dream about it! I was going to rent a dress for a wedding last year and was too nervous I wouldn't like it or it wouldnt fit well. I think I may do it for a few of the weddings i have to go to this year because buying dresses is EXPENSIVE. Now that I have soem tips I think it is worth a shot!
