the other dress

Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, Michael Kors loafers
Last week I told you about the two dresses I inherited from my friend Vanessa. Here's the second one. I wore it over the weekend to a fun blogger brunch at Andalu on Guerrero. Jess of Stylepint organized the meetup and it was great to meet some new faces (like Aimee of Song of Style, Alyah of Soulful Soles, and Brittany of Work it Berk) and see some familiar ones (like Margot of MSB chic, Jenny of Going West, and Natalie of Like Fresh Laundry).

I'm in New York this week so excuse me if posting gets a bit spotty. Hopefully I'll have some fun pics for you when I return.

happy earth day

H&M conscious collection

H&M conscious collection by missioncloset featuring flare dresses

I've been curious about the H&M Conscious Collection for a while, so I figured Earth Day was a good time to do a little research. Their sustainable mission includes using recycled and organic materials to meet the needs of present and future generations. They're using fabrics like hemp, sustainable cotton, and Tencel/Lyocell which uses minimal land, chemicals, and produces lower greenhouse emissions. Learn more here.

Today I'd also like to give a shout out to my dear friend Jess Chamberlain, who truly celebrates earth day every day. She's a home editor at Sunset Magazine and recently wrote an amazing article about a zero waste family. The story was picked up by the Today Show this week and Jess makes a cameo.

everybody get together

Here are the last of the photos I'll be posting from the blogger photo shoot. We took a bunch of group shots for the grand finale. I experimented with color blocking, Eli rocked 70s style, Elena looked sassy in a cobalt tank, and Becca mixed prints like a pro.

thread show finds

A couple of weeks ago I stopped by the SF Thread Show at the Metreon with my friend Monica. Overall I was a disappointed with the clothing selection, but I did find some cool local jewelry designers. The necklaces above are by Dear Mina.

One woman's rags...

Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, Frye shoes
I don't have many opportunities to wear this dress so I decided to post this photo despite the poor lighting, lack of makeup, and messy hair. The sun was setting and I raced to grab a shot before I was really ready for my dinner date. But isn't the dress fun? My friend Vanessa bought it and another Marc by Marc Jacobs dress on Gilt Groupe over a year ago. She didn't like the way either fit her, so I tried them on and fell in love with both. I'll find an excuse to wear the other one soon.

musthave monday: yellow bags

yellow bags

yellow bags by missioncloset featuring quilted leather handbags

Yellow bags add a great pop of color to a spring outfit. My little mustard drawstring crossbody has been in my regular rotation lately and I love pairing it with navy, neutrals or other bright colors like pink, cobalt, and kelly green accents.

spring staples

Club Monaco top and skirt, Aqua necklace, Rebecca Minkoff bag, borrowed shoes
Here are a few more photos from the blogger photo shoot. I can take very little credit for this outfit. Micki Turner posted a photo of a mannequin styled with the skirt and top in the window of Club Monaco. I went to see the outfit in person and just had to have it. This has already become my favorite Spring outfit and I've been mixing and matching both pieces with my other staples.

Speaking of Club Monaco, I'm really excited about their current collection. I hadn't been in the store for a while and found all of their styles and colors perfectly on trend, not to mention high quality. I'm excited to add CM to my repertoire from now on.

musthave monday (on thursday)

wide stripes

wide stripes by missioncloset featuring multi colored dresses

The vivid Prada stripes from the S/S collection have made quite the splash. When trying this look at home, go with tailored pieces and clean lines to prevent any clownish ensembles. I also like the idea of wearing thick stripes on your accessories to add a pop of the trend to a simple outfit.

beads and baubles

BaubleBar

BaubleBar by missioncloset on Polyvore.com

I recently discovered BaubleBar thanks to Grace of Stripes and Sequins. It's a well curated jewelry website and they feature beautiful, limited time collections at great prices. Right now they have some cool collections like Urban Cowgirl, Oversized Studs, and Buried Treasure. Above are some of my favorite pieces on the site right now. Sign up for their newsletter to find out about the new collections before they sell out.

when two become one

Gap jacket, H&M dress, F21 belt, Camper shoes

PLEASE tell me you loved the Spice Girls as much as I did in the late nineties. If not, the true meaning of the title of this post is lost on you. But you can still understand that two topics have merged into one here. #1 is that it's Maxi dress day on Everybody Everywear. Go check out the other bloggers who styled this spring essential. #2 is that I'm finally posting photos from the blogger photo shoot! This was the outfit I wore en route to the shoot in the pouring rain. As Elena and I approached the studio on foot, a car drove into the gutter and splashed a SHEET of water all over us. We screamed. It was cinematic. Fortunately the floral print hid the damage.

The lovely Eli of Thrift Eye
Have you seen the photos from the shoot over on Eli and Becca's blogs? Take a look!

sneakpeeq

My friend Monica recently joined a startup called Sneakpeeq and last week she invited a group of bloggers for a demo. Sneakpeeq is a social shopping application connected to Facebook so you can see what your friends are checking out and buying or ask for advice on items you're considering. They'll feature specific designers for a limited period of time and prices are reduced for Sneakpeeq members based on the number of people who view an item (the price lowers as more people peeq). The app launches today with items from Kate Spade's current green collection. Sign up on Facebook.

weekend shopping: thread show

The 8th Annual Thread Show tour is in town this Sunday at the Metreon. I went last year and discovered some cool local designers. Tickets are $5 if you RSVP at threadshow.com or $10 at the door.

two birds

A chic boutique called Two Birds recently opened in Noe Valley. I read about it on Daily Candy a while ago but only made it over there for the first time this past weekend. It's a huge store on Castro and they have a great selection of designers like Theory, Elizabeth and James, Kooba, and Rebecca Minkoff. They also have tons of denim and jewelry. The two owners are super sweet and I can already tell I'll be stopping by whenever I'm in Noe.

hands off

I'm still waiting on the final images from the blogger photo shoot so I figured I'd show you one of the silly ones. It's true--I love my Rebecca Minkoff MAC that much!

lunar blue sunday

Lunar Blue Necklace courtesy of JewelMint, Club Monaco shirt and tank, J Brand jeans, Camper shoes

JewelMint has quickly become one of my favorite jewelry sites. The styles are really unique, the price is right (everything is $29.99), and their monthly suggestions are helping me think outside the box. I've been wearing my Eros earrings like crazy and was delighted when they sent me this Lunar Blue necklace. I love the fringe and it's the perfect way to add some color and style to a simple outfit. I wore it on Sunday with this military shirt, gray tank, and my favorite skinnies for a day of errands. I'm also looking forward to dressing it up and pairing it with brighter colors like orange and magenta. Sadly, it's already sold out, but here's my invitation link if you're interested in seeing what the JewelMint stylists pick out for you: http://jmnt.me/fkc9nEThey also have a cool blog filled with styling tips and trend reports.

happy 60th, mom!

Saturday was my mom's 60th birthday. Isn't she so stylish in her Trina Turk dress and Betsey Johnson necklace? Maggie came home from DC to surprise her and we had a blast all weekend long. (But we missed you, Caroline!)

Happy birthday, to the best mother a girl could ask for. I love you.

banana republic monogram collection

Last week Banana Republic invited a group of local bloggers to preview their new Monogram special occasion dress collection at the Gap Inc. headquarters. It was a gorgeous night and the event was held in a gallery with beautiful views of the Bay. The dresses, which hit select stores and bananarepublic.com tomorrow, were also very pretty to look at. The marketing team walked us through the collection of styles that range from short bridesmaid-esque solids to vivid print maxi dresses. It was so fun to meet the lovely Banana Republic team and many of the bloggers I follow daily, like Jennie of Going West, Laura of On the Racks, and Christina of Profresh Style. The Grant Avenue store will be the only store carrying the line in San Francisco so head down there asap because I'm sure they'll fly out the door.
