ocean beach

Missoni for Target sweater, H&M tee, Cheap Monday Jeans, DEMA necklace, Frye boots, Tom Ford sunglasses

Last Sunday Nick and I needed to remind ourselves that we live on the coast so we headed to Ocean Beach despite some misty, gloomy weather. He went off on a photo expedition and I sat and chatted with my sister who was celebrating her 25th birthday (and our other sister was celebrating her 21st on the same day. Crazy huh?). Somehow I became part of the expedition.

alexa, poppy, and snoop

Last Thursday was a pretty crazy night for me. Alexa Chung was promoting her new line at Madewell so Santina, Eli, Angie, and I figured we'd stop by to see her and the collection. Alexa is clearly a style icon and it turns out she has a great personality to match. She's ADORABLE and quirky and super sweet. Not to mention absolutely gorgeous, of course. Check out Katie's interview with Alexa on Refinery 29 for further proof of her awesomeness.

Next we went to Kate Spade where they were hosting a party with San Francisco Magazine featuring lipstick readings by Poppy King. I remember reading about Poppy in Seventeen Magazine when I was in high school and I looove lipstick so I was pretty excited to meet her. Like Alexa, Poppy was incredibly sweet and fun. She helped me pick out a sheer fuchsia lipstick that I can't stop wearing.

I was exhausted after the two events so I went home, put on my PJs, and was just starting to get cozy on the couch when Nick sent me a text. He was at a party where Snoop Dogg was about to perform and he had a wristband for me. Needless to say, I threw on some clothes and rounded out my evening with some Gin and Juice. Sadly I didn't capture any good photos at the party but below are some more from Kate Spade.

sipping & shopping at dema

Last week some friends and I met at DEMA on Valencia to sip champagne and shop for the evening.  It was really fun to have the boutique to ourselves while we tried on clothes and rocked out to Neil Diamond. I especially love the bracelets and necklaces they're carrying made out of African trading beads. And of course Dema's eponymous collection is always awesome. Each season I crave her classic shift dress in one of her fun prints. Thanks to Dema and Ashley for throwing a great little party!

red pants, 4 ways

red pants, 4 ways

red pants, 4 ways by missioncloset featuring bright skinny jeans

For months I've been wanting red pants. I finally found the pair for me over the weekend and now I'm looking for ways to wear them. I searched on Pinterest and found a bunch of great ideas so I created a red pants board. These are my 4 favorite looks and I can't wait to start experimenting.

henderson dry goods

Like I mentioned yesterday, Erin brought me a lovely gift from the boutique she owns in Victoria, BC called Violette. She carries jewelry and fashion accessories for all budgets and styles at Violette, and her other store, Emporia, features provisions for home and living. I adore this necklace she gave me by Vancouver designer Henderson Dry Goods. It's a laser cut portrait of Coco Chanel on wood with a delicate gold finish and oxidized silver backing. They'll also make custom portraits from any photograph. Isn't that such a cool gift idea? Be sure to visit Emporia and Violette if you're even in Victoria.

fashionable friend : erin

My dear friend Erin and her fiance Blair came to visit over the weekend from Victoria, BC. We had a blast catching up after not seeing each other for 5 years. I took them shopping at all the stores they don't have in Victoria (the big hits were Madewell, Diptyque, Unionmade, and Barney's). Erin has impeccable style and I especially loved the outfit she wore to dinner on Saturday at Chez Panisse Cafe. Erin owns two boutiques in Victoria and she brought me an awesome gift from her jewelry store. More on that tomorrow...

fashion's night out(fit)

Eli snapped a couple of outfit pics for me while we were party hopping on FNO. My Vince jacket has become my absolute favorite clothing item -- I love that I can dress it up or down. Thanks to Maggie and Tania for helping me plan my attire via mobile photos.

Bold Coats

Bold Coats by missioncloset

Resist the urge to buy a boring black coat this fall - bright and bold is the new black. Stores like Asos, Topshop, and Old Navy have affordable options so you can experiment with this trend. I especially love these bright colors paired with camel or leopard accessories, but of course you can't go wrong with basic black pieces and your favorite pair of jeans.

academy of art at nyfw

San Francisco's own Academy of Art University was the only school to present at New York Fashion week this year. The spring lines by the graduates were filled with beautifully tailored pieces in colors ranging from dreamy, soft neutrals to super bold reds and cobalts. I'm excited to keep my eye on these budding designers. Below are my favorite looks from each line but you can watch the whole show here

everybody everywear: colored pants

Aritzia tee, Zara pants, Rebecca Minkoff clutch,  Maxstudio pumps.
It's colored pants day over on Everybody Everywear so I figured was a good day to break out my cobalt pants once again (also seen here and here). Micki had a great post about colored pants recently and it made me want a pair in every color. Especially red ones like Tania's . I've been wanting red pants for a while now so it might be time to find the perfect pair. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for great red pants and go check out how other bloggers where colored pants on Everybody Everywear

Ruby Lee beaded and silver bracelet from Santa Fe (thank you Claudia!), and vintage bangles.

santa fe

Here are a few photos from my trip to Santa Fe over Labor Day weekend. Nick and I had a great time visiting his family and of course I loved the shopping. The jewelry was especially beautiful. Such vivid colors and intricate silverwork. I brought home a bracelet made by a Navajo woman named Ruby Lee and I'll show it to you tomorrow in an outfit post.

FNO SF

Fashion's Night Out in San Francisco was truly an awesome city-wide event this year. Stores everywhere threw parties and I had a blast hopping around with fellow fashionistas like Santina, Becca, Eli, and Angie. I started the evening at Neiman Marcus for a blogger toast hosted by Lindsay and Caitlin then headed to Vince for the Children's AIDS Arts Programme benefit. Next I swung by Marc Jacobs and ogled the amazing polka dots. Finally I ended the night at Saks where I happened to win a $500 shopping spree in a random drawing! Crazy, right? All I had to do was vote in their blogger styling competition. Thanks Saks! I'm so excited for my shopping adventure.

Thus FNOSF was a huge hit in my book. Here are a few photos I managed to take during the excitement.

Special thanks to Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Vince, DODOcase, Rex Ray, Pop Chips, and Gilt City for sponsoring such great events. I'm already excited about next year!

fall forecast: polka dots

polka dots

polka dots by missioncloset featuring polka dot shoes

Polka dots are big for Fall and probably one of the easiest trends to incorporate into your wardrobe.  Try a scarf or tights for a subtle touch. Blouses with large spots look great with jeans and flirty skirts. Or be adventurous and play with mixing spots in different colors and sizes. Check out Micki's post on Facebook has some more styling ideas.

karl lagerfeld for impulse

Sorry for the hiatus! Last week I was crazy with work and then I went to Santa Fe for the long weekend (pics coming soon). In the midst of it all I had a little time to swing by Macy's for the Karl Lagerfeld for Impulse launch. I love when designers make their clothing accessible to the masses (counting down the days till Missoni for Target) and this collection definitely showcases Karl's genius at an affordable price. The faux leather shorts (above) were a big hit and I'm looking forward to seeing them on a few SF blogs soon. Special thanks to my friend Katie at San Francisco Magazine and Macy's for throwing a great event!
