a different dress

Holiday '12 Dresses by missioncloset on polyvore.com

My company holiday party is tonight so I have cocktail dresses on the brain. I usually try to find a dress that's unique, on-trend and classy. This season I'm loving all the lace, brocade and graphic prints. Stand out in a sea of LBDs in one of these eye-popping numbers.

andy and ali

Our dear friends Andy and Ali got married in September in Los Gatos. The ceremony and reception were at Nestldown, an incredible venue that really feels like an enchanted forest. It was a beautiful evening so we ate dinner outside and danced all night in the barn on the property. Photos by One Love Photography.

Ali's gown is by Romona Keveza and the bridesmaids wore Ivy & Aster

I loved the flowers in Ali's hair, and that big grin on Andy's face all night.

fall favorites: emerald

Emerald City

Emerald City by missioncloset featuring skinny cropped pants

While oxblood is still my #1 color crush this fall, I'm also flirting with emerald shades of green. I couldn't resist these J. Crew flats in Boulevard Green and am finding them surprisingly easy to pair with the rest of my fall wardrobe. I love them with shades of blue, creme, gold, cognac and black. I'm also on the hunt for a green day-to-night dress to wear during the holiday season. Let me know if you stumble across one.

julia and frank

Julia is my dear friend from college. She married Frank in St. Paul, Minnesota in May. It was a beautiful celebration at the St. Paul Athletic Club that included a surprise performance of The Book of Love by some of the men in Julia's life. You can watch the video on Julia's blog, Minneapolis Hunter. Photos by Stephany Wieland of EyeSpy Photography.

Two maple trees decorated the ceremony. Afterward, Julia's parents planted the Julia and Frank trees in their garden.

fall favorites: leather

Leather '12

Everywhere I shop, I see leather dresses, jackets, skirts, tops, pants, collars, sleeves and trim. I like when it's unexpected and almost contradictory, like a girly pleated skirt or a cozy sweater coat with leather piping. Colored leather is especially big right now. Burgundy, gray and dark green are beautiful alternatives this season to the black leather rocker look. Embellishments like trim, collars, and panels are a great way to subtly wear the trend. And a leather jacket is, of course, a wardrobe staple, especially in San Francisco where you can wear one year-round.  I found a jacket I loved last year and I've never regretted the investment. Here are some outfit ideas from net-a-porter to help inspire you:

arianna and matt

In July, my best friend Arianna got married to Matt, her awesome boyfriend of 7 years, and I was her MOH. I've known Ari my whole life, so it was truly an honor to be part of this wonderful celebration. The ceremony took place at Tra Vigne restaurant in St. Helena and Dennis Kwan's photos captured the event beautifully.

Arianna's stunning 40's inspired gown is by Amy Kuschel. The bridesmaids wore J. Crew.

Ari chose a gorgeous pair of blue shoes, so a few of us decided to go bright too.

Tra Vigne was a beautiful place for a wedding--a picture-perfect setting with delicious food.

Ari is known for her amazing chocolate chip cookies.  She spent the week before the wedding
baking one for each guest.

erin and blair

I went to some wonderful weddings this summer so I'm going to start sharing photos from these great parties. I'll kick it off with the most recent. Last week my family, Nick and I went to Palm Springs to celebrate my lifelong friend Erin's marriage to a great guy named Blair. The wedding was at the Ace Hotel so it was full of fabulous retro details. Erin owns two boutiques in Victoria, BC -- a jewelry store called Violette and a home & living store called Emporia. Erin has impeccable taste, so naturally the wedding was gorgeous.

The stunning bride in a gorgeous Enzoani gown and flower crown by
Root 75 Flowers. She also wore the most amazing Miu Miu shoes, but of course I forgot to take a photo.

Erin wore beautiful jewelry by Leah Alexandra. Erin carries Leah's work at Violette and the two
designed these pieces together. Leah was also at the wedding and we talked about her coming to SF soon for a trunk show.
The bridesmaids wore dresses by Rachel Pally and jewelry by Leah Alexandra.
My mom's dress is Kate Spade, Maggie is in DVF, and I'm wearing a Nanette Lepore dress I found on Rent the Runway.
The desert mountains were a breathtaking backdrop.

I loved all the decor. The wedding was styled and planned by Beau + Arrow Events.
Sequin table cloths!

"You're the One" by the Black Keys was the theme of the wedding and the first dance. I'd never heard it before that night, but it's now on my list of favorites.

These doubled as table numbers and name tags with pins on the back.
Congrats Blerin!

fall favorites: outerwear

The chic, sporty look of hip-length outerwear is shaping my fall wardrobe. Don't worry, long coats will never go out of style--especially in climates cooler than San Francisco. But this season, investing in a short coat will take your style a long way. Currently there are tons of cozy cropped pea coats in stores. Another option is a heavier jacket in a moto or stadium cut. Scroll through the slideshow above to see 20 different styles for every budget.

fall favorite: oxblood

Fall '12: Oxblood

I'm baaaaack! I accidentally took a very long summer break from blogging, but luckily I've returned in time to share some of my favorite fall trends. First up is the color oxblood/burgund/wine/bordeaux. This hue just screams fall to me. Perhaps because it was also on my radar last year even before the big "oxblood" rebrand. It's a little icky to think about wearing an animal's blood, but it also sounds kinda badass, don't you think? I especially love the color in buttery leathers, soft suedes, skinny pants and big handbags. For some cool color pairings, try sky blue, forest green, peony, or peach. Here are a few outfit combos for inspiration, courtesy of Net-a-porter.

a vest

the denim vest

the denim vest by missioncloset on polyvore.com

A denim vest is a new addition to my rotation this season. Mira of Mira Mira was wearing an awesome one all last summer, so when the sun came out this spring I found myself remembering how cute she looked and decided I needed one too. Sure, they're not terribly practical (especially in SF where sleeves are pretty necessary year-round) but there's just something perfect about the way a denim vest adds that casual-cool touch. I especially love them with skirts and dresses of all lengths. Mira Mira has some great Washborn Denim vests in stock now.

tel aviv jewelry

Wow. I truly can't believe it has been a month and half since I last posted. I've really missed blogging and I don't plan to give it up, but I just can't find as much time lately. So please forgive me if posts are somewhat sporadic. I think I'm also going to try sharing more tidbits and photos on my Facebook page if you want more updates. For now, here's some cool jewelry I found in Tel Aviv. The city turned out to be something of a jewelry capital and I brought home a few cool pieces.
